The Nene Valley Mines Study Group are interested in the Northamptonshire Ironstone mines. These extend from Northampton along the northern edge of the River Nene to just north of Thrapston.
There are two large areas of underground workings, the first one is between Finedon and Irthlingborough, and the second one between Islip, Lowick and Slipton.
There are also many minor workings inbetween.
Our goal is to teach people this missing part of local history , from start to finish . Below is a lovely photo of very early methods to strip the over burden . Scanned by Northants archives .
